And their live sets always contained a bunch of great ska & reggae songs. They played to massive crowds, stadiums & arenas all over the globe. In 1983 Rolling Stone Magazine called them the biggest band in the world & they were just that. And they were big selling records, not just in the UK but all over the world. The Police’s first 4 albums all contained a couple of great ska & reggae songs. And them playing ska & reggae had a massive influence in turning a whole generation onto ska & reggae. Many of their best songs were ska & reggae songs. They reached number 2 & number 12 in the UK singles chart with ska flavoured songs before the 2 Tone explosion had even started. Ska & reggae was only a part of the band’s sound, but a massively important part. To be honest i think people asking that question are totally missing the point of what The Police did for ska & indeed what they did for reggae.
